A Pennsylvania school will be saving nearly $15,000 in lawn care this year using hungry sheep. The sheep are charged with nibbling the grass around the school’s solar panels and then resting in the afternoon under the solar panels. It’s a great deal for all parties involved because they’re fed with the school’s grass so the school need only supply the sheep with water, and they have the shade of the solar panels to take refuge when the sun gets too hot.
According to the Associated Press, middle school assistant vice principal Eric Sands will be providing the sheep.
If you’re considering buying sheep to trim your lawn, here are a few tips to take into account. Buy a minimum of two. Sheep don’t do well solo and it’s just not fair to them. They’re social animals so make sure to get them a pal. The sheep will certainly help with the contribution of fertilizer to your lawn as well if you know what I mean.
Make sure that you take care of your sheep with ample water. You’ll also need to trim their hooves, get them sheared, and treat them for fleas and ticks. But otherwise these are great animals to keep around.
